The Westcar Papyrus: A Transliteration, Translation and Language Analysis

The Berlin Papyrus 3033, known as the Papyrus Westcar is a collection of short stories, written in classical middle Egyptian and one of the major literary papyri in Ancient Egyptian. This book provides a transliteration, translation and an in-depth analysis of the grammar and a general commentary of the original text. Furthermore, the author conducts a comparative statistical analysis of the grammatical and stylistic features used in each of the stories and discusses the structural content of the papyrus.

This book is the original version published by Edition Atelier, Vienna in 2006 under ISBN-10: 3-902498-16-1 and ISBN-13: 978-3-902498-16-8, which is currently out of print. Therefore, with the permission of the original publisher, the author has resumed once again all rights to the book. Responding to numerous requests for copies of the book, it has now been provided by the author in Kindle and Amazon paperback version.

Part A of the book contains a complete transliteration and translation with an extensive grammatical and general commentary on each of the five stories: (i) Pharaoh Djoser; (ii) The Tale of Adultery; (iii) The Boating Party; (iv) Djedi, the Magician; and (v) The Birth of the Royal Children; in the Westcar Papyrus.

Part B of the book analyses the stylistic features of each of the stories and introduces statistical methodology to test the significance of the stylistic differences between the stories, to attempt to answer the question as to whether the stories are written by one author or are a collection of stories from different authors. The analysis discusses the various grammatical applications in each of the stories and the general structural content of the literature.
